If he has the spazda crappy 5spod he will need every bit of the 4.56's gear, that tranny's gearing is crap (we have a 92 with the 5/5.0L and 4.10's on 31's and its a PITA to drive around the farm in 1st gear, a lot of the time i kick it into 4lo to get around better), and with the extra gear getting around will be oh so nice.

For the carrier definitely look around at scrappers. If you can find a pre-'80 truck 4.10's also pretty common. I bought a set of 4.10's with the carrier for $30. If I was looking to go 4.56's I know I could sell off the 4.10's for $30 and then the carrier itself was free.
