Got into my truck today after work and it just plain wouldn't start. Same thing happened four days ago. Changed the starter and it was fine... Changed the starter relay today and it still wouldn't start. What is going on? Sometimes it is difficult to start, have to turn the key real hard, don't know if that will point to anything...
Ok , When you say you have to turn the key real hard do you mean its physically hard to turn or do you mean it takes longer to start ? If you could offer a few more details that would be great , Mileage etc . Its possible you have a fuel pressure related problem . When was the last time you went over the engine with the usual maintenance items ? Your engines fuel pressure should be 40 to 60 Psi @Idle . The next time you have a no start , check for spark and fuel pressure .

Its not hard to turn the key, just have to turn it hard all the way to start it. The truck has about 155K miles on it... Last good go-over was 6 months ago. Other than this, the truck runs great. One more thing: a few times she wouldn't start and I just waited a few minutes and then it started fine (with the usual hard turn of the key)
Have you tried electrical test yet? Take the truck down to the local parts store and they'll be able to test and load test your system. It could be your battery, or in my case, an old curroded ground cable.
Your problem would tend to make me suspect your coil or your condenser, had the same problem with my truck. Replaced the coil and she runs like a top ever since. And my old coil checked out fine when I tested it. Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem not too long ago, but when I turned the key sometimes I'd get the clicking sound... My neighbor, a mechanic, snooped around and showed me that it was simply because the starter was not grounded against the block. When he put the point of a continuity checker in the crack between the starter and the block, that was enough to start it up just perfect. I only had to take out one bolt, clean it, and reinstall it. No problems since. I had never heard of anything like that happening before.
LAST EDITED ON 18-Jun-00 AT 07:01 PM (EST)[p]what does it do when you turn the key, nothing, click no crank, crank no start? i'll try to help but i'm leaving tomarrow and won't be back for several days, by your description so far i'd suspect the ignition switch.
Just had and fixed this problem....First you have to look at your truck as though it has 2 12v-dc systems..trust me on this one system runs every thing the other the starter and fuel pumps, as you look at your neg. terminal on your battery you should see an 8 or 6 guage wire that grounds to the body this is the every thing gound. the other runs to your engine block, this is most likey the problem. remove this cable and replace it with along one that youe can mount directly to the starter mounting bolts. Your engine and tranny are very well insulated from the frame and body by thick rubber mounts and grease. this was a frustrating problem for me but after acouple of days and a few hundred dirty words I fixed it by replacing the cables. Hope this helps...Frankenstein
