I6 exhaust / O2 sensor woes, code 172

Have not determined if it is warped, cracked or bad gasket yet but I have this question. Is it possible to have a big enough leak that fresh air enters and causes the O2 sensor to go code 172, exhaust lean? I will probably answer myself when I do the manifolds this weekend, but was just wondering if anyone has experienced this before. Karl
