Question 5.4 Intake Manifold Question

I am installing a twin screw supercharger on my '02 F-150 5.4. The bottom plate of the supercharger sits right on top of the intake opening, but the plate extends forward another ten inches.

It just so happens that is rests on one of the risers and bolt holes (brass insert) on the front of the intake manifold, which doesn't allow the lower plate of the supercharger to fully seat against the intake orifice. I end up with a big vacuum leak.

This particular bolt hole is not being used as the throttle cable bracket is being moved for the supercharger.

My question is this: Can I grind down this bolt and fin a little bit without damaging the intake manifold? I need to take about 25/1000ths off of it.

Any comments would be appreciated.

What did the supercharger manufacturer say about it? The bolt I wouldn't be too concerned about, but removing part of the intake could make a weak spot that may not like the boost pressures.

Intake Grinding

The supercharger manufacturer is quite puzzled and is working closely with me to solve the problem.

Concerning the upstanding bolt on the manifold, it turns out that the bottom of the plate is milled out so that the bold doesn't really touch, but the lower plate will still not mount flush with the intake.

The manufacturer is sending a new lower plate and it should arrive today. The plate I originally received must not be machined properly. It looks as if I have received a bad one.

The only other answer is that my intake manifold orifice is warped to some degree, but the upper throttle body adapter fits perfectly so I have dismissed that idea.

I appreciate your thoughts.
