Weird problem on my '01 F-150 4x4. The driver's side power window won't go all the way up when I'm driving. Once in a while it will go up the last 1/2" (with a big 'clunk'). Typically it stops short, then I get to hear wind noise until the next time I stop. Once I'm stopped, however, it will go all the way up.
I did a forum search on power windows, but came up empty on this particular problem. Could this be a drive motor problem or a stripped gear cog? Thinking about using silicone spray in the window channels - any other thoughts?
Your idea of the silicone on the channels is a good start. Also make sure it is not binding along the window seals in the door. A little lube in there could help too. If those don't work, then look at the gears first then the motor. Seems like it is either binding or missing teeth somewhere in a gear.
