Engine coolant temp. test
1988 Ranger, 2.9, auto has rough idle and temp. guage never rises to normal. Pulled koeo, cont. & koer codes and received 21 code (engine coolant temp. sensor out of range). I plan to change out thermostat, however, is there a test for the ECT sensor? Any other ideas?

2.07k ohms at 212'f & 37.0k ohms at 68'f should give you an idea if it's good but if your not getting the engine up to temperature because of a bad thermostat you can get the code so I would fix the engine temperature problem first.

You can get that code if the engine isn't up to operating temperature when you so the EEC test. Make sure you pull the codes on a warm engine.
