302 heads

I have got a set of 302 heads i have been running on a 351W. I drilled out the head bolt holes so they would fit. i am gonna double check but i think they are D5OE heads. Can someone tell me what valve are in these heads and the cc of the runners. I use them for drag racing is there a better stock head out there.
thanks donnie

D5OE - 1975 Fairlane/Torino
69cc chamber
1.78" intake
1.45 exhaust
1.94" X 1.04" intake port
1.24" X 1.00" exhaust port

I can't help with a head recommendation; it is just one part of many in the system.

69-70 351 windsor are good. They have larger ports, bigger valves 1.85/1.57, and smaller combustion chambers 60 cc. (you don't have to drill out the bolt holes) Even the early 289/302 heads are better than what you haveas far as cc's go. They can also be fitted with 1.92/1.60 valves. Bill.

Donnie, I can't tell you the either the intake or exhaust cc's. I do know combustion chamber cc's from spec's. I also know 1.94/1.60 valves will fit from experiance. I also know the port sizes are larger on some more than others. I have also had some experience cc'ing some heads. How can I help? Bill.

Donnie, Aftermarket heads are the way to go if you can afford it. However, they are getting some pretty impressive flow numbers from CNC preped 351 windsor heads at a fraction of the cost. Aftermarket aluminum heads offer lighter weight & higher compression ratios than cast iron heads. I guess if you can afford it go for it. Bill.

Bill, where can i get a set of preped 351 windsor heads. If they are alot cheaper i would rather go with them. My pockets are not really deep enough for aluminum. thanks Donnie

Donnie, Check out Power Heads (www.powerheads.com). There is an excellent article on them in "Mustang&Fords" May 2005 issue. You also can pick up a set on E-Bay or flea market & have a shop build them to your needs. I am impressed with the results "power Heads" get & would probably go with them. ( Go with the porting, 1.94/1.60 valves, hardened seats, 3 angle valve job.) on the 351 heads and bolt on 40 horsepower. Bill.

AFR 185/205's are outstanding heads and produce some serious numbers right out of the box. i read in a mustang mag that they netted almost 70hp gain but need to find the article to double check. but you add the right cam and intake to that and you got your self a screamer

You are right about the AFR's, they rank among the best. My friend had them on his 393 (351 stroker) mustang coupe and run 9.8's last summer. The 351 heads from power heads are $695.00. Bill.
