Ok, A cop stopped me and gave me a speeding ticket......85mph in a 75 mph interstate. When he stopped me I asked him if he stopped me because of my headlite. It just went out that morning. He asked what headlite? In other words he didn't even notice that the light was out. It was night time.
Anyway, I asked him what his radar showed because I wasn't doing 85. He said he was pacing me which was wrong because I saw him on the other side of the road and turn around and then just came upon me. I was actually doing 82mph.
He said he saw me passing other cars (that was his justification) I guess.
Quesition, This is my word against his since he does not have radar proof.
Is there some way I can get out of this without showing up in court?
I work in another state so it's not worth me taking off of work since it would cost more money?
Oh yea, it was a young short horn that stopped me....frickin rookie

They like it when your from out of state its easier for them to collect their revenue. Check and see if the courts will allow you to take an online drivers safety class, so your insurance won't go up. If you can get over their and fight it.
Sounds like that cop is developing some very bad habits. He will make a nice little revenue generator.
You just admitted to doing 82 MPH, at the very least...and in a public forum. No offense, but... you want off on a technicality? Seems more prudent to own up to your mistake and chalk it up as a learning experience.
#1 I have a garmin gps and have verified my speed with it and it is dead on.
#2 i saw the cop from the get go and he did not have time to "clock" me.....I slowed down long before he could do anything.
#3 this is about what he caught me doing....not what he thinks I was doing.
Remember, his justification was that he saw me passing other cars.
What kind of Police work is that.
I should be innocent till PROVEN guilty.
Oh yea, we ALL break the speed limit, you do and I do as well. This is simply what he caught me doing and I say I had already slowed down before he could prove (thru pacing or radar) I was 10mph over the posted speed limit.
When I asked him to show me the radar results and he could not produce it he looked down to the ground suggesting submissiveness and that he was using his judgement only.
But you remind me of my wife..exceot you may have a viable reason for pushing the limit....However Since my stepfather is a state boy..here in ohio....The court will 90% of the time go with the officer..just because of a political point of view..however i hope you get out of it one way or the other
Hmmm, I just got a speeding ticket for doing 82 in a 75. There was a cop on an overpass clocking people while two more hi-pos were beyond the overpass in the median picking people up. I was a little bit nervous and angry, so I was not thinking as much as I should have. I should have asked to see the radar, but I just took the ticket like a dummy. Since the overpass was not an exit, the hi-po would have been forced to drive quite a distance to present the evidence. I do not think that I was going quite 82 mph, more like 80-81, but I am not sure. The cop was in a heck of a hurry, wrote my ticket in a flash and then I was on my way. Oh well, it has been 4 years since my last ticket and my insurance will not go up if I can avoid a ticket for a year. Also, I live 300 miles away from the county where the ticket was issued, so $80 would not be worth a court appearance. With that all being said, I WILL be getting a radar detector, although I am not commonly a speeder. I have alway wanted one, I would rather spend my money on that then a ticket.
If I was in your shoes, 97, I would appear in court. It sounds like the cop was just trying to fill his quota for the month, and he was bending the rules to do it. And to think, cops actually wonder why they do not alway get all of the respect in the world. There are great cops out there, but it seems to me like some get into the business merely to be a bully, possibly as a result from being bullied when younger.
I got a ticket for doing 78 in a 70. Also had no front license plate (new law here 2001). He gave me a warning for the plate, but a ticket for the speeding. I was speeding, did the course deal and got it taken care of. Whats the sense in fighting a ticket if you were breaking the law?
I agree with 02superstroker. you were speeding and you got cought. you can fight it in court i guess since he didnt prove you were speeding. I got a ticket so i went to a few hour course, and when i got a good grade on the test the took the ticket off my record.
Tough break man However, you were speeding, I know it was questionable how you were caught, but be honorable, own up and pay it off. Bottom line you were speeding.
I don't know the laws in every state, but the officer does not have to show you the radar. If they do it is just a courtesy. If you do not want to return to that state and fight it, then just pay it. If you do decide to return, check out this site before you do.
