hey guys, i gotta tell you im starting to get addicted to these mods now, haha.
two questions about the 10K mod.
#1- do i need guages with this mod?
#2- i went to radio shack to buy the 10K resistor, and they had a package with about 20 different ones in it, (the 10K was in it) but i could not, and they could not tell me which one it was, the resistors have color coded stripes on them, but radio shack doesnt have the book to tell me which one the 10K is, so do you guys know what the color coded stipes are for the 10K resistor?
#1 Everybody should have gauges, even stock trucks. That being said, so long as you are talking about just a 10K resistor, and not any of the variable or clamp set up's, you probably can get away without them.
Depending on the tolerance resistors you bought, if they are 5% resistors, then the 4th color band will be gold, if the 4th color band is sliver, then they
are 10% tolerance resistors. Brown-black-orange is 10K (10,000) OHMS.
I have heard people say they had no idle problems and others did. I ran it on mine for a while and had the rough idle and surging so I took it off when it started to annoy me.
You can always get a disconnct for the throttle so when you let off the accelerator it shuts off the resistor.
Just the accuracy in the resistance... 10% would be okay... Radio Shack carries them at 5%... that is what I used.
If you don't want the rough idle, put a reed switch on the idle validation circuit. I have a toggle on mine to shut it all the way down if I want, but the reed switch works well.
Just my $.02, I like the 5.6/10K mod. BUT, I can see where if someone simply jumped the two wires with a resistor and left it like that, a person would get annoyed with the rough idle and surging. Quite honestly, putting this mod in without being able to shut it off at idle is just asking for trouble, I think. By having the circuit open with a reed switch or being able to over-ride with a toggle is totally the way to go. I love what this mod does, I can definately feel it even while stacked over the performance setting on my Diablo chip.
Yep, got me a 5.6K resistor (kwikkordeas's idea) and put it on a switch, if i need to pass someone, or burn the ram in the next lane over, flip the switch and drop the hammer!!! works awsome and much more noticible than the 10K... i have no gauges right now, but i am running stright piped, and open air intake... plus i never have the switch on longer than 5-6 Sec, till i get the gauges on her... Good luck
