That SROD seems like a awesome trans. Those speed ranges I could live with. I have a 4 wheel and off road mag here, and they list a bunch of different transmissions, but I don't see that SROD. The Ford trans that they list are the T-18, T-19, T-98, and then some autos, like the E4OD, and A4OD. Its pretty cool, tells all the gear ratios and stuff. they don't show that mazda trans though, wonder why.
I have the ratios for my '84's 4spd OD, whether or not it was a SROD. I recently read that in the late 80's Ford started using a 5spd manual OD Mazda tranny in the Ranger and Bronco II. I bet us F150 folks got the same Mazda tranny as the Ranger.
Depending on what uses you have in mind for your truck, the SROD may not be the ideal tranny for you. I have a 82 F-150, which originally had a 300 I-6 with the SROD tranny. When I bought the truck, it had 4 mismatched 235's, so I upgraded to a set of 31's I had laying around. With the I-6, the SROD, 31's and 3:50's, the truck was severly underpowered. OD was only used on long road trips, otherwise, 3rd was the best gear for smooth driving. For highway driving, where the truck is empty, and stock tires, it should work fine. However, if you are going to use it as a work truck, the current tranny may be the best choice. Some problems that I ran into with the SROD were that, because it is an aluminum cased tranny, the mounts are not as strong as the mounts on a cast tranny (T-18, 19, NP435). I have used my truck as a work/ranch truck, and when hauling hay in deep snow, the added stress broke both mounts on the tranny. However, I have not had any problems since swapping in the 435.
Well, that and a SROD has the shifter mounted on the tailshaft, and is kinda impossible to use in a 4x4......
