I have a 1990 F-150 reg cab long bed 4x4 with a 351w and an E4OD. The trans is shot and I want to convert it to a C6 since they are plentiful, durable and cheap...and I won't be using the truck on the highway more than 10% of the time so OD is no big loss.
Can anyone tell me what I need to grab from the donor truck when I find one?
So far my list looks like this:
C6 trans
Computer
crossmember
driveshafts
Will I need the harness? I'm assuming that the new computer will plug right in. Is that a true?
Was the same transfer case used for the C6 as for the E4OD for a given year? (Basically, if I find another 90 F-150 that had the C6, will the transfer case be the same)
Thanks,
Ryan

you sure it's an e4od? I don't think they even had those in 1990. Do you have an o/d button on the end of the shifter? If you don't then it's just an aod transmission and the swap should be straight forward.
The E4OD is electronically controlled and the C6 isn't. The swap is possible but I think you'll need a chip to disable the trans function in the PCM.
The C6 is shorter, so you will need to move the trans cross member foward and re-drill the holes on the frame. You'll also need a longer driveshaft and maybe some various bracketry for the throttle cable and kickdown.

I have an E40D in my 90 F250 4x4. My cancel button is in the dash on the right side of the column.
Yes it's an E4OD. My OD button is on the dash and there's a nine-wire connector that plugs into the solenoid pack in the transmission.
If I use the computer from the C6 donor I'm hoping I won't have any trouble codes, but how is the TC lockup controlled for the C6? I'm assuming there's a single-wire connector of some sort that controls it? I'd like to have the lockup work properly.
Maybe the pin used for the C6 TC lockup is the same as for one of the nine that went to the E4OD and I can just swap in the C6 connector?
