i have a 05 single cab shortbox 4x4 currently running 3.55s with my 4.6. i love and respect the 4.6 but it has noticably less ***** than i would like...especially for a manual opted small 1/2 ton. i'm planning on probably a diablo sometime late this year, k&n cai, and i have true duals on it right now. granted my gas mileage sucks right now being about 11 which hopefully my fuel trim will work for the better of my wallet. i am going to be running 33s on it for awhile later along with my leveling kit. so gears are deeply needed. i'm not too familiar with the ratios of the trans in the new trucks and my christmas present to the truck is to be a detroit c-locker for the rear and detroit tru-trac in the front end. i plan on a 6" skyjacker sometime in the next year and a half to two years though and 35s. so i'm really considering 4.88 gears to be on the safe side but also wondering how much thats gonna kill already crappy mileage. granted it'll be better for the 4.6s powerband just not wallet. but i wonder if 4.56s would be too little to satisfy me. if with gear/chip/tires etc i can keep around 10mpg and hang with a stock 5.4 scab i'd be happy. any inputs from anyone who's done this mod yet or from any other ppl who work at dealerships?
I made a chart just for this sort of thing for my rig. I'm not sure if the tranny is the same ratios or not?
My 4.56's and 33's are just a touch too much for constant speeds over 80. Great though, for pulling and everything else! A 35" tire would be a great match!
64f10 how did the e-fans and pulleys work out ?
Thank 2004Screw
Haven't had a chance to get them in yet ... been off playing! Hope to take some time here soon! Wanted to compare feel with the toy hauler trailer in tow before and after. Just pulled it over 600 miles and it was a great up/down test of the new gears (excellent)! If they were not broke in before, they are now! Also though I'd wait for my AF1 to come in and just do it all at once.
Ive always believe that the perfect companion to 33"s are 4.10s, and 4.56s for 35"s. Seeing that you have the smaller 8, it might not hurt to go to the 4.56s.
i to suggest 4.56 especially if you plan on going to 35's. gear installs are not cheap so going in to often would get very very spendy. i would also suggest going to a selectable locker this will help with mileage vs a basic detroit locker thats putting power to both wheels 75% of the time. also the diablo chip will require you to run premium fuel all the time so i would pass on it till you feel all other mods have been completed like headers, intake, throttlebody etc.
im not sure where the carrier break is for both your front/rear axles. I know with most 8.8 the carrier break is 3.92 and same went for the front d44 .
Hello, I went with 430's and I have 31's I wish I had gone with the 456. It is a little better than stock (355) but I wanted some more kick. My installer talked me out of the 456 with a 31 tire. Oh well time for a supercharger
