Howdy. I've been looking around here for a bit and haven't found much on the lines of my question so I hope maybe the experts may know what to do.
Dad has a 94 F-150 with an AODE transmission, and when you're running about 30-45, it feels like you're driving over rumble strips. It'll vibrate for a few seconds, then stop, then vibrate again. Cramming it down into second tends to stop it, or getting out of that speed range. Locking out overdrive works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. Changing the fluid helps for awhile, but it eventually comes right back.
So I was wondering if anyone knows what is going on here? I know the last time I ran a code scanner on it, it said the Torque Converter solenoid wasn't locking up, but I don't trust myself with a code reader, so it could have very well been false. If there is something wrong with that solenoid, how would I be able to test for it, and would it be causing the vibration we're feeling? Thanks for your time.
I'm not sure if this will help or not,but my '95 did that one time and I took it in to Ford garage and they changed trans fluid and it was fine after that. They said the fluid was broken down. I puchased the truck new and it had about 50,000 miles on it at the time. Now I regularly change fluid every 30,000 and have no trouble anymore. I have 128,000 on it now.
We have to change dad's a time or two a year, so I figure on 10-15000 before we have to change the fluid again. And its good for about 10 or 15000 before it starts doing it again. I'm still looking for a cause though so I can find the solution. I'll let you know if Ifind anything.
