Power Steering Pump Pulley

I have an 87 F-150, 302 EFI with A/C. I'm looking for the mentioned pulley. Around here I can only order it from ford for about $52. My current one has a rather large chip in it and is eating my serpetine belts. Also, my Haines manual shows a special tool for removing the pulley, is this necessary? Thanks

Roger

Yes it is necessary to have a special removal tool and also a special installation tool. Some rental places have these. And some parts suppliers will rent special tools. If you do this yourself pay attention to how far onto the shaft the pulley is so it will line up with the other pulleys when to push it back on.

yes it is. The pulley is pressed on and therfour you have to use a puller to remove it and it will also press it back on.Its real easy to use and you wont damage anything like the shaft or the new pulley. Can you rent one anywhere?? see ya' windsor

Yes, I should be able to rent one, we do have a NAPA and Autozone and Checker here. New Mexico by the way. The same tool is used to put the pully back on?

The tool to press it back on is a little different from the one to pull it off. The last two pumps I purchased from Advance Auto had the tool (bolt and nut) in the package to press the pulley back on. Your local mechanic should be able to pull it off in about 1 minute, or if you rent the tool, just take your pump to the store, use their tool and give it back to them; 5 minutes tops.

Good luck,
