replacing a flywheel
And i need to see if there is an easy way to change the flywheel, without removing the transmission from under the truck, also i need to see if it would be easier to leave the transfer case on the transmission or take it off. And do i have to mark anything before i take it off.
As for marking things, mark the relationship between the driveshafts and fittings on the differentials. A bit of paint works well. Unbolt the T/C from the flex plate and leave it in the tranny. Make sure when you reassemeble that the T/C has not slid forward and that the tabs that engage with the pump are correctly indexed. I like to use bailing wire and whatever else to keep the T/C from sliding off the tranny. I'm not sure on the transfer case removal; if you have a tranny jack or creative means of lifting the tranny + t case, leave it, but if you're gonna somehow try to do this via bench pressing it in there then pull it.
The easy way to do this job would be to use a hoist for the vehicle as well as a tranny jack. Sadly for most of us, this (vehicle hoist) is not available to DIY folks.
