Hi, I'm new to the forum and hope maybe someone can assist. I have a 2003 F-250 V-10 4x4. Every so often when I start the truck and before I even place it in gear I get a loud popping sound that seems to come from the right side. It does not happen all the time. The ford dealer cant find it our duplicate it. Anybody had this happen. Thanks.
Sounds like a common problem that most SD owners have. Try leaving your climate controls in a different position (I cant remember if you are supposed to shut it off, or leave it on) But do the opposite of what you have been doing, like leaving it off instead of on and the pop should go away.
Yea my truck does the same thing. I took it to ford and believe it or not I actually got it to make the thump in front of a service guy. Well that feat must have used up all my luck becomes it took the guy 20 min to basically say he had know idea what could cause it but he did narrowed it down to ether something to do with the 4X4 or the AC. However, if that is the only complaint i've got, well hell ill take it. LOL (Best truck I have ever owned)

The A/C clutch may need to be shimmed. If I started mine with the a/c on, it popped sometimes. Or if I hadn't run the a'c in a while and turned it on while the engine was idling, I'd get a large pop, it was the clutch.
The Air Conditioning, and heater controls are vacuume powered and there are conditions where the vacuume is lost when stopped.
What you sometimes hear, is the "blend" door slamming shut in the bottom of the passenger side and can be quite startling at times. No real fix, nothing wrong with the system and I tend to think of it as confirmation that the vacuume system is working (how else could it SLAM the door shut)

Thanks for the info, glad to see it is nothing to be concerned about
