Installing Disributor Problems

After replacing my timing chain I cannot seem to get my distributor stabbed into the number one position. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks Tony

Turn crank to top dead center on compression stroke ( Pull #1 spark plug out and listen or feel for compression comong out the spark plug hole). Put cap on distributer and mark the distrubuter where #1 is located on the cap. Turn rotor so that it points to the mark you made on the distributer after the distributer is fully installed (rotor will turn an it moves into the cam gear). You may need to turn the crank so that the distributer falls on the oil pump rod. If you do then turn crank to top dead center compression after installing distributer and make sure rotor still points to the mark you made on the distributer. If not slowly pull up the distributer until it clears the cam gear and then turn the rotor in the direction it needs to go and repeat the procedure.
