When I am driving I can hear a small bell like ringing coming from the right side of the truck. It seems to be coming from the front tire on the passengers side. Not sure what it could be. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks
Dude, mine just started the same thing on the drivers side. It seems to be coming from the front as well. I am woundering if it could be the bearings or something like that. I have a 97 Expy EB 5.4 w/83,000 miles.
I had the same problems on my 1997 Ford Exp. EB and it was the lower shock bolt. The lower shock bolt has a thin metal piece that becomes loose so it shakes whenever you hit a pot hole.
I will also check mine this weekend. If it is this metal ring what do you do to fix it? Is it as easy as tightining it or do you need to replace the whole shock? I have a EXPY 2001 XLT 5.4L. Thanks
If the shock bolt is what I think it is, just never heard it called that, it is a flimsy cap that goes over the nut that holds your hub on and has a cotter pin that is installed to keep the cap in place. As far as fixing, I've found a pair of needle nose pliers to be sucessful in bending the tips inward so that the cap locks onto the threads. Others have replaced the black putty that was once there to solve the problem. I remember it sounding like a chain was jingling when I was driving and it drove me nuts. My father had the same problem on his F-150 too.

You're thinking of a hub nut. They are not referring to the hub nut and if you got a 4x4 you don't have hubs or that little tin cover. They said SHOCK bolt. That means the lower bolt on your shock absorber. Turn your wheels one way and stick your head in the wheel well and take a look around. If you try to shake every component in that wheel area and something rattles then you found it.
I had this problem and it drove me nuts for about a week. I was wacking everything with a rubber mallet trying to find it. Mine turned out to be the keeper that makes sure the hub nut can't back off. It is held on by a cotter pin but is a very loose fit on the nut. I removed it put a bend to it and reinstalled it. Problem solved. This can be done without removing anthing but the center cap of the wheel. So if you have a 4 wheel drive start here. Not sure how the 2wd hubs are mounted. Hope this helps.
It isn't the shock!! Pop the center cover off the wheel and pull off the keeper that holds the hub nut on. I just put some silicon on it and the jingking went away. Do it on both front tires. Mine hasn't made the sond again for over a year. This topic has been talked about many times on this forum. Easy fix.
