The 435 has a cast aluminum cover on it, unfinished. The T18 has a cast iron cover that usually oxidizes. This is generally the easiest way to tell. Since it's an 86, I'd be willing to bet that it's a T18, unless it's not original. But I'm 99% sure the tranny bolt patterns are the same at the bell housing.

aight ill give that a shot next time i look at it. ive had the covor off before and i think it was oxidized but i cant remember, i wasn't paying attention, but i dont wanna tear up my new carptet so ill have to look at part number on the side, whill my VIN tell me anything?
