T18 or NP435

How can you tell the difference between the T-18 and the NP435?

the truck is an 86 f-150, came with a 300l6

Switching over to a 460, need to know which trany i have so i can get a bellhousing

The 435 has a cast aluminum cover on it, unfinished. The T18 has a cast iron cover that usually oxidizes. This is generally the easiest way to tell. Since it's an 86, I'd be willing to bet that it's a T18, unless it's not original. But I'm 99% sure the tranny bolt patterns are the same at the bell housing.

I had an '86 Bronco that came from the factory with an NP435, so don't discount it.

Look at the tranny. My T-18 has a Borg Warner logo cast into the side of it. I don't think the NP435 had anything more than part numbers cast into it.

aight ill give that a shot next time i look at it. ive had the covor off before and i think it was oxidized but i cant remember, i wasn't paying attention, but i dont wanna tear up my new carptet so ill have to look at part number on the side, whill my VIN tell me anything?
