I made a post on this nightmare of a problem a week ago and still have not figured out what is wrong. I have heard of the plug into the computer under the hood on the driverside passenger wall getting water on the connector, and water also getting into your intake tube, and the problem with the distruborter cap needing to be only a factory replacement. I had replaced the cap, plugs, coil, wires a year ago and the problem driving in the rain with the spitting and the spattering went away. Only within this past week has this ugly problem come back, and yes we have been getting alot of rain. I have replaced the map sensor and tommorrow will be putting in a new Intake Air Temputure Sensor, will this cure the problem, I hope so, when I pulled the codes it said both of these were out of test range.? Good luck, I'll let you know if I ever find the problem.
Why not spend some $$ and get a new cap and rotor first, after all you said that they are over a year old and these will wear out long before any of the sensors. I replace these as soon as my truck starts rough.
Papa Tim, good Idea except after reading the codes, I got a 22, which is MAP/EVP voltage low, and code 327 which is EGR Valve Position circuit below min. voltage. telling me that the MAP sensor after 150,000 miles has about had it and the EGR is needing some new blood. Truck Idling is alot better since MAP replacement and IAT sensor seemed to also help. Will keep posting if any more problems.
Well, its been a while that i was dealing with missing and rough idle. It was getting bad enough to where the Ford Mechanic might find it this time. I decided to do a tune up before the dealer gets it. PROBLEMS ARE ALL GONE!!! I had a bad set of wires on it. The Coil to Distributor wire had two pin holes in the boot to the dist. This was causing a random and serious missfire. Truck runs like a top again.
