Question FX4, what does it contain???

I recently bought a 2003 F250 7.3 with the FX4 package. Just wondering if anyone can tell me exactly what that package consists of. I think I have some larger blocks in the rear of the truck, not sure if its part of the package or not. Thanks for any info.

I also have a question about the fx4/offroad packages:I have an 01 and have the 4x4 offroad package which was before the fx4 option came out... and I was wondering if there is any ground clearance difference between a regular 4x4 and a 4x4 with the offroad package or a regular 4x4 and one with a fx4 package.

Regardless of body height, isn't ground clearance a function of tire/wheel radius? Sure your running boards are 18" off the ground but you will still destroy your differentials if they are only 10" off the ground.

The reason for jacking up the body is to put larger diameter tires under it. If you go from a 32" tire to a 44" tire the difference is 12". But you only gain 6" at the axel.

I have a 96 F350 with the camper package. I think this gave me an extra spring in the back to carry a camper. The truck body/frame is higher than some but the clearance is the same as anyone else with stock tires (diameter).

Yep, the Ford website says it includes skidplates for the transfer case and the fuel tank, along with "Rancho branded" front & rear shocks, and the decal. Cost is $225. Now, on the other hand....you can get the same skid plates in the skid plate package for $100. So....the shock "branding" and the decal are $125. HOWEVER, I also noticed that certain other items must accompany the FX4 package. LT265/70Rx17E BSW All-Terrain Tires and the 3.73 Limited Slip Axle Ratio specifically. When building a vehicle on the Ford website, the price actually went up $650. Pretty sure the skid plate package doesn't require any extras added on. Not sure what the common thinking is on this, but if it were me, I would forego the FX4 deal and just get the skid plate set-up. Then you could use your savings to buy a real set of HD shocks.........
