Myself, I drive a 95 Contour SE V6 5 Speed, leather, sunroof, remote entry. It is such a good, fun, practacle, dependable, decent power, great handling, car. I really want an SVT version of it....anyone out there have one of those? 0-60 in 6.8 seconds stock, not too shabby. What are your thoughs on the car?
No room to work on the engine......that does kind of suck. Does he have the V6 or the inline 4? Some later SE's came with a 4 banger......sigh. If you want a good place for info on the car go to www.contour.org
He has the V6 and manual transmission. It seems like to do anything on that engine you have to R&R the intake manifold. Ford wants big $$ to do anything even simple things on the car so I do most of the work. Their time books for different operations are way far off.
BIG difference between the '95 and '98 SEs. The '95 was the top-of-the-line, sports-GT model. Wonderful little car; you're lucky to have one (don't ya just LOVE the sound of that motor?). By '98 the SE was just a step up from the base LX, not much difference between the two. Take care of that '95- I had only one for a demo (I usually wound up with an LX) for about a week. What a car!
I would love to have a 95/96 V6 5-speed. My uncle used to have a 96 with an ATX...and it was fun on its own, let alone to have a manual to rip gears with. Would have been great. Don't find too many on car lots though...
You can find them on ebay normally for a very reasonable price. But who wants to buy a car off of ebay. The 5 speed does take about 1.5 seconds off the 0-60 though. Gets it down to 7.7 stock. It is a good sleeper....everyone thinks that it is a little grandmas car and then you go flying by them. And for about $100 you can get another 15ish horsepower out of them with an intake and doing a cheap mod to the exhaust (on the y pipe). The reviewers back in 95 loved the cars....saying it was VERY BMW like in performance and handling.
I had a 95 SE 5 speed from 1995 to 1998. Very throaty with lots of lo-end torque. It was the precurser to the svt for sure. I remember telling the sales guy I wanted a manual tranny, nothing that handled mushy, comfort, power, and reasonable fuel economy, when he pointed to the Contour I thought he was crazy --till I drove it.
