hey everyone ,my question is this .i'm upgrading my 240 .not overboard, just a little bit.i have a stock 1966 240 which runs stong but i have purchased a set true duel exhaust manifolds to let the engine breath better and give it a nice sound in the process.but can i run with the stock intake(right now its the stock one barrel carb. intake)or do i have to upgrade to a two barrel?i appriciate any help
In your part of the world (South Carolina, right?) you do not really need the heat from the heat riser. Thus, removal of the stock exhaust manifold should not give you too much trouble. Getting the old bolts out that hold the two manifolds together is a little tricky -- I'd guess you will have to take the intake and the original exhaust off together and then take them apart carefully.
Supposedly, the EFI swap alone willl give some decent performance increases, and ranks #1 in terms of cost to reward ratio -- especially if your exhaust is already shot when you start! Putting a larger carb on the stock intake might help a little, but is not reported to be nearly as effective as an aftermarket intake. Head work is useful too.
