I need help choosing a limited-slip rearend. Given what I want it for, I had narrowed my choice down to either the Auburn HiPerformance or the Spicer Traklok (it's for a F250 with a 10.25" Ford differential). I thought they would be roughly comparable for the primarily highway use of my truck. Now, I hear that the torque transfer on the Auburn is twice that of the Traklok. Is this true? Since I will occasionally be pulling a heavy boat up a steep boat ramp, this info. concerns me. What can anyone tell me about the actual performance differences between the two?
What about longevity?
The Spicer should be much longer-lived than the Auburn. It will also have a lower bias. The Auburn is a very good performance unit, great for hard launches or putting power down coming out of a corner, not what you're likely to need in a truck. The Auburn is not rebuildable, it's strictly a use it up and throw it away item. The spicer is rebuildable but you're unlikely to ever wear it out.
For a Mustang, I'd go with the Auburn, for a truck, I'd go with the Spicer.
You may consider an " Eaton Posi" as well. Totally rebuildable with clutch packs on both sides. And, with a name like Eaton, how can you go wrong. I think you can just type eatonposi and get to there web site.

I went with the Detroit TrueTrac L/S. Excellent road manners, they have a good positive action when wheels are slipping and they don't have clutch packs or need special lubricants. As for the Auburn, I was told that the cone was replaceable. I could be wrong though. Either way, of the the L/S's that you mention, they all should work pretty good.
