I have a 1977 F250 4x4 highboy (narrow frame divorced xfer case). A few years back a wheel bearing failed and friction welded itself to the spindle. I cut the old bearing off and reshaped the spindle with a file until the new bearing fit. I haven't had any problems with it, but it's always worried me.
I bought a bare d60 housing with the carrier caps from a guy for $50. I looked up the bom number for it and it came up 1971-72 f250 hd 4x2 pick up. The bom # is 603196 11. Will this housing work in my truck?
I would like to got to my local u pull wrecking yard and get a carrier from another truck and rebuild it, what years will interchange with this housing. I think my truck has 30 spline axles and would like to reuse them as well as the backing plates and brakes.
I'm also thinking about looking for a traklok. I know there not the best but I will be using the truck to hual a camper and winter driving, not much off road.
