My girlfriend talked me into having her friend detail my truck, since thats
what he does for a living I agreed. He washed it and hand waxed it with
what he said was the best pruducts. Truck looked amazing when I picked
it up but it was cloudy outside. Today the sun hits it and its loaded
with small, tight little light white swirls. Not a good look on black.
Anything I can do or am I screwed?
If he used a rotary buffer, they are more than likely Holograms... they take a fair amount of effort to remove by hand. If you know a real detailer who actually knows how to use a rotary buffer... I'd give him a call -- Definately fixable though
The gang is right - you need to find a *good* detail guy to take care of your truck.
I allowed a dealership to do a detail on my '01 Expedition, and they managed to swirl the paint just a hair. It's only noticable under direct sun, but it looks bad. My new F-350 will be receiving hand washes and waxes only (and, given the Texas weather and sun, I'll be doing that a lot...)
05250harley, Man that really sucks, when my truck was only a couple of months old it got really, really dirty and I was out of town and went to one of those do-it-yourself washes dumped some quarters in and washed away with the brush (it seemed soft enough). Well after drying and pulling out in the sun and seeing the results I just sat there and beat my head against the steering wheel!! I got some Meguires car cleaner/wax in the squirt jug and my buffer and after just one pass over the truck all the swirls were gone. With a black truck you must be very careful with the type of wax u use because allot of cleaner waxes will give you that swirl effect on black. I have used the mequires cleaner wax many times just to improve the luster of my truck and it works great.
PS if you are as **** as I am after the cleaner/wax you can then give it a good heavy coat of pure caranuba wax to make it up to her. Also after the waxing be sure to remove all the drool marks!!!
I had a black expedition that a well known detailer messed up. First thing is, if you paid for it go get your money back. Next you have a decision to make on if you are going to fix it or have another detailer try to. I fixed mine to better than when I bought it with a product called zaino. It is expensive but you will love the results. Do a search of zaino bros on the web, evrything you need to know is on that site. Hope it works out for you.
3M makes a swirl remover. It is in their profesional line of produts. I have not bought it in a while 1 bottle last a long time when you are only using it on a Harely.
Fixable. Actually, I fixed a similar issue with a rotary buffer. Just keep in mind it's not for beginners. You can mess it up much worse quite fast. As others recommended, get a good'ol detailer
