points and dwell
would you guys mind walking me through the process of setting the points and dwell?when i adjust the dwell,am i changing the points gap as well?should i unhook the distributor vaccum to adjust the dwell?i'm pretty sure i,m getting the points gapped right,i,m not to sure about the dwell though.i,ve searched the other threads.but i,m still not clear on a few points.the last time i tried,i got the gap and dwell set and then set my timing.then i checked the dwell and it was way off.is this normal?thanks............wayne

adjust you points with a feeler gauge, be sure the point rubbing block is on the high point of the dist cam, that will get you in the ballpark, the you can fine tune it with your dwell meter, closing the point gap will increase dwell, opening the gap will decrease dwell, check at idle with vacuum advance disconnected, dwell will change slightly at higher RPM when vacuum is connected, if it changes radically you dist bushing or breaker plate may be worn
