I was wondering how much horsepower and torque my newly rebuilt 400 has. I have .030 over badger flattop pistons, a comp cams extreme energy 262 cam with a set of valve springs to match the cam, comp magnum double roller timing chain strait up, a set of headman fenderwell exit headders, and stock 2bbl intake and carb. What would the numbers be with the 2bbl intake and carb? How about a 600 cfm edelbock 4bbl carb and a edelbrock intake?
Best guesses using DEH cams cause I can't get the other specs right now.
265DEH 2Krpm 158hp/416tq,4Krpm 249hp/327tq w/ 2bbl
2krpm 165/434, 4.5Krpm 310/362 4bbl
Those are peak #'s. The 4bbl carries tq much higher, the 2bbl falls on it's face after 3500.
I've run them both ways. So far the only difference for the 4bbl is after 3K rpm. If you rarely go over 3K like most people then you will hardly ever notice it. If you are running over 3K rpm frequently, then go for the 4bbl and don't be afraid to step up to 650-700 cfm.
