Lifted my truck (see sig) this past weekend. The front tires seemed to be lined up straight, and pitman arm went on fine, but after bolting everything together. I find that my steering wheel is upside down. 180 degrees? I turned the steering wheel right side up and the steering shaft moved just slightly. It looks like the only way the pitman arm will go on is with the steering wheel upside down. Ideas anyone?
If you put the pitman arm on in the correct direction as your stock one was pointing then you just need to adjust the drag link length. Just loosen it up, spray it with a little lube and use some big huge vise grips or monkey wrench to adjust it. Make sure both ends are in there far enough to have plenty of threads, and clamped down tight. You really don't want that pup coming loose on you.
I just looked at the description of the truck in his gallery, and it says it is 2WD. If it is 2WD, you will have to go to an alignment shop and have them turn the steering wheel to its midpoint rotation, with the steering wheel right side up, and then adjust the tie rod sleeves to make the wheels straight and have the proper toe-in.
If there is a typo, and it is 4WD, then all he has to do is lengthen the drag link by turning the sleeve--probably between 1 & 2 turns if it's 180 degrees out.
Thanks guys, Ron you hit the nail on the head. Took it to my buddy who lifts trucks for a local ford dealer, and he did exactly what you said. He took off the pitman arm (it wasn't dead center) and then adjusted the tie rods. Thanks for all the help guys.
Stroker - I'll have pics up by next week. I want to post some nice pics of my truck @ the Dumont Sand Dunes (going Fri-Sun)
