I just noticed the rear strap holding the fuel tank rusted through and broke. Needless to say, I'm not going to drive it until it's fixed. Is this a common problem with older trucks (1990) ? If it is, I advise everyone to check their straps. Is it expensive to replace both straps?
I suppose it's a concern if the vehicle sees lots of roadsalt in the winter. The more salt they see, the poor the material coating or the moe rocks that have knocked off the coating, the sooner it will begin to rust. The same can be said for the rest of the vehicle.
OEM may be expensive (don't know), but when I replaced my whole tank I bought aftermarket ones that were like >$40 for the set and some new bolts. They are more of a pain in the butt to install than anything else.
I'll call my mechanic and get a price from him. I'm putting his kids through college with all the money I'm dropping into this Ranger... It runs great for a week or two then something breaks on it.
