Site Opinion

Hey all,

I built a site for my brother-in-law's car to show his restoration progress of his car. What do you think?

http://www.67chevelle.ca

P.S. I don't know if this is allowed in the forum rules, please delete if this isn't acceptable.

I see lots of people looking, but no comments?

Come on, I can take the criticism, no matter how it is dished out

Cool sight. Car looked good before the teardown. Did it need a resto?

An opinion is like an F250, everyone's got one, mine just isn't very nice but you asked for it...

What's the main point of a restoration site? What do people want to see? Pictures. So pictures should be the first thing you see.

The top banner looks great. What I don't like are the boxes; the Main Menu, Login Form, Polls, and Statistics boxes make the page look cluttered. You could put a menu bar just under the banner and going across the page (horizontally), that would free up a lot of space for what I want to see: pictures. If I want to see statistics, I can click on it in the menu bar, and in my case I don't, so I won't have to look at it de-facto.
So the main "menu" bar would have "home login news links contact polls statistics" on it. I don't know if you really need a login, polls or statistics function. Maybe you can also have menu bar item for a parts' list you used, write-up on what the history of the car was, it's specs, what you did to it and what you will do to it and maybe a how-to section. Perhaps you picked up some tricks and techniques propper to this particular car.

Now for the pictures. OK, you've got some great pictures. That's the important part. I would have organized them in "headings" along the left side of the screen, in a frame, with captions like "Before Restoration", "Body", "Engine", "Frame" etc... and then I would have a full size view of the picture in the center of the page with a "First Previous Next Last" control bar under it. Under the full size view, I'd have thumbnails so I could jump around. Maybe a thumbnail view with a slide bar or "previous next" type control, I don't know. Also, put detailed captions on each of these pictures. Tell us what we are looking at and what you are doing to the car.

Hey, you asked for it!

There's a lot of "between" pics missing I guess

The car deteriorated quite a bit over the years.... the body was always a "nice on the outside" sort of thing... had a lot of bondo etc in it....

He wants to do the car good and proper now.... going to be a project for a couple of years, but that's cool by him!

And n578md... thanks for the criticism..... that's what I was looking for
