Someone told me to make sure my "Check Engine" light is working before I go for the Enhanced Emissions test. I turn the key to the on postion and the light doesn't work. My manual doesn't tell me much about it as far as a fuse or troubleshooting.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I took the dash apart today and the bulb was gone. Took one out of the 4X4 slot since mine is 2 wheel drive. Works now! I just replaced the tube from the EGR valve to the manifold. My code scanner still gives me error #33. I've cleaned the valve (it was stuck closed) and then I climbed up and sucked on the vacuum line and the idle became erratic - this is what it's supposed to do from reading the manual. I cleared the memory and re scanned but still get #33. I'm going to try swapping out the EGR valve off another truck. If that don't work then I'm lost again. Thanks!
What type of scanner do you have? On fords you need to clear the code. Unless you clear the code you will still be getting the same error code.
The light is common to be removed by someone who may be trying to sell the vehicle and it has a problem. Always remember that on all cars the check engine light will come on with the ignition switch.
it's probably the EVP/PFE sensor located on top of the EGR valve just because it's a EGR code doesn't mean it's the EGR valve, the codes clear on EEC4 system when the problem is fixed. If you are using a cheap scanner you might want to try a NGS.This is what dealers use, you can monitor exactly what most of the sensors are reading. Cheap scanners are the worst thing to use, sometimes they can lead you in the wrong direction because they are not capable of allot of things dealer testers are.
We tested the EVP with a sensor tester. With leads hooked to the 3 prongs of the sensor we applied vacuum and the LED's gradually lite with the increase of vacuum.
The suspect now is the EVR sensor. We cannot get it to hold vacuum at any time on the inlet or outlet to the EGR. Hooked a vacuum guage inline with the EGR and went for a drive. Vacuum never did get over 1 inch. On my buddies 1999 Ford truck we got a little over 4 inches. The EVR must be a dealer item.. The local AutoZone can't find it in their books. I'm going to check with a dealer tomorrow and try this next. Thank you for your reply and help
