I know there were a few updates for the 6.0 rigs, but are there any for my 7.3?
Or where to go to find out?
Or should I just bite the $300 bullet and get a performance tune?
That's not so bad, but when you add in guages, exhaust, intake and other stuff it gets a little costly.
I'm just looking to get more than 15.6mpg (overhead) /15.4mpg (hand) out of my X. The Oil Companys are killing me.
you should call up jody at www.dp-tuner.com he has some of the best tunes and his economy tune will help out your mpg's a ton, my buddy got the econo flash and his mpg's went from 16 up to 20
When I did mine I just sent him the old one, one week and $75 later I had it in the truck, I have two so I could go with out the one for a while, but having a spare is a great thing too. either way, one of the best guys for tuning, cheap, and real easy to deal with.
Sorry, I don't agree that buying a PCM flashed to a single tune for $225 is economical, or even makes one IOTA of sense.
You can buy 3 stage (holds 3 programs) chips all day long on the net for $225, and you never have to send your PCM anywhere. And the chips will perform the exact same functions. Heck even a swing on Ebay will net you a used Diablo Delta for $100, send it in to Ken for $40, and whamo you have a 3 tune chip for $140 (however, no guarentees that it will work).
Don't waste your time with expensive reflashes or sending your PCM to tim-buk-too, just get a tuner with 4 different tunes and the ability to read codes. A tuner rewrites the PCM with a tune that is already stored in the tuner....just the same thing that is done when you send your PCM in to a tune dealer.
It will be the best $400 you've ever spent, any you won't be screwed when it comes to warranty repairs as it's easy to uninstall the tune and reset to factory settings.
Yes, true, I have both a chip, and a reflash. the reflash is defently stronger then the chip.
But.... the question was about an upgraded REFLASH, not a chip or programer install, so I was kinda in the wrong too.
You can go to a dealer and have them reflash the PCM, but a DP-tuner reflash will be alot better, more flexable to what you want, the dealer will just flash it, no guarantee's it will increase your MPG.
I can get a new PCM for $225 (truck MUST run), and have a spare PCM should the re-tuned one ever have a problem or I need warranty work.
But it's a fixed tune. And if I have problems with any PCM input or output devices I still need an OBDII reader.
And it's 75 bucks to change my tune.
If I go with the Preditor, I get 4 tunes not counting stock, but I'll never want to use anything less than the 60hp tune because I'll get spoiled. And stock will then suk.
And as a bonus I get an OBDII reader.
And I'll go to the big round air cleaner from NAPA,
And i'll either get the big truck muffler or straight pipe.
And pyrometer is a must.
And momma won't watch the guages while doing her errands and that's ok, because i can de-tune her so she can't burn it up.
