c8ae heads
c8ae heads
Just picked up a set of c8ae heads and a c8ae 4 barrel intake, for my 1973 390. The heads are bare but do have the valves, I will be sending them in to be redone, I am wondering what carb to run though. I was thinking around a 600 to 650 cfm and not sure if I should go with manual or vaccum secondaries. Would also like to put a cam in it. any sugggestions?? thanks
jeggs has their products set up like kits. You can get carb, intake, cam, and lifters all matched to work together. it makes it better than throwing swap meet components together and expecting performance. however new carbs are not like older ones. with the introduction emmision controll i would opt for the 650 cfm carb. it will run like an older 600. i would also go for the vacum secondaries. this is all my just my two cents
Well, the ala cart way of choosong parts is not only fun if you take the time to investigate things it can also be better. Thats not to say that a complete performance package is neccesarily bad, but your truck and mine are probably different as is our desire for the type of performance we are looking for. Decide what you want to do with the truck, street, hot street, mudder, whatever. Determine which parts you are willing to replace and how much you want ot spend. For example, if you don't want to mess with your gears then you need to match components for the size gears and tires you plan to run. AS far as the carb a 600 cfm is a 600 cfm. It's not a style it's a flow measurement. My son's 390 is running a Carter 600, (same as the Edelbrock performer) and it will go to 5500rpm easily. If you doubt you can go to Holleys web site and check out their cfm calculator and see for your self.
