Any of you guys ever used the Streetfighter series torque converters from TCI? This is the one that I have got my eye on for my build combo, with the addition of about a 3.89:1 rear gear, and it's also what TCI has recommended for this truck, but I'm hesitant to drop $379 on it without some real-world data. Just wondering if anyone has run it before, how it performs, and what kind of manners it has when just cruising around town.
Well TCI makes some good converter's for street use and some Low dollar street/strip converter's..... I guess what your combo is...and what stall you plan on running..you didnt mention that? It all depends on what your planning on doing with your ride??
The purpose for the truck is all hot rod. No pulling, hauling or towing intended. Probably lower it a little eventually, and just cruise around in it, romping on it here and there. Want it to thump, which it does, thanks to the large cam. Also want good response whenever I nail the gas, which is why I'm trying to get the right converter matched up. Right now the truck has a Dayco converter that is rated at about 2800 and it slips ALL of the time. Not even close to being the right converter for this truck.
Well ya have too understand that Stall Convertor's are a guessimate ....when dealing with an off the shelf converter... A reputable Converter company will want to know you Torque Curve...Hp range..weight of the Vehicle..The cam your running...Carb..Tranny..rearend ratio and tire size.... Anything Less is just a Crap shoot!!
Also remember what would be a 2500rpm stall in a 3000 Vehicle...could be a 3500 to 3700 stall (at Flash) in a 4500lb Vehicle.....
Too get out from Under a salesman at Converter's are Us... Talk to Some at Broader Transmissions....Or Coan Converter's....and see what they would recommend...and then go to the Cheapies..and see what they offer in the same converter...
