I went to the ATM machine on Friday. Withdrew $20.00...but actually got $40.00. I checked my reciept thinking maybe I hit the wrong number keys. Nope, the receipt said $20.00.
Later I checked my bank account it showed a withdrawl for only $20.00.
What do you guys do (or, what would you do) when this happens? Not that it happens everyday...at least not to me.
Found Money !!
I went to the ATM at Shell Station. As I inserted my card I notice cash in the dispenser tray MMMM I didn't even put my card in OH Well no charge for that fillup!.
They never get it if you try to give it back.
Well I returned the money to the bank...and like you said...they didn't "get it".
I can only hope that I saved some bank/atm employee a headache of having to explain why the till (or atm, or whatever) is short by $20.00.
Here's another atm story, and embarrassing one. I went to an atm and got out $20.00. And went directly to the grocery store to get some lunch. I get to the cashier, reach in my pocket, and don't find the $20.00, just the atm reciept. I'm baffled...the atm was only 2 minutes from this store and I went directly from point A to point B. I went back to the atm in a state of disbelief figuring I'd left the money sitting there..and figured it'd be gone. Well the money wasn't there, but something inspired me to look in the little garbage slot below the atm. Well there it was. I actually crumpled up the $20.00 and threw it in the garbage. Talk about being distracted. I can't imagine where my mind was when I pulled that stunt.

I would take the extra to the bank, as you did, and let them figure it out. A free conscience sleeps better. My worry is that one day I will key in a cash request for two hundred bucks, and the machine will only give me a 20, but show a reciept of 200.00 having been dispensed. I know the atm has video , and it would show me getting currency out of it. How would one ever prove they did not get the two hundred they asked for ? Can you imagine how long it would take a bank to get that one straightened out , if ever ?
i would look at it as free money and think that the powers above are smiling on me. what the hay? thats when i will know it will be a good day as it is yet to happen.
heh, I would think that if 2 bills stuck together, the automatic bill feeder that grabs one bill at a time could actually pull 2 (or more if more stuck together, or the feeder/grabber wears) bills with the machine only thinking it had grabbed one.
Same thing happens once in a long while with a printer, it will grab and feed 2 sheets through itself instead of one, and print on the top sheet.
I woulda taken it back. I know i went through a drive through and paid with a 10, the total was like 4 something. well, the woman hands me back my change and i have $16. It's like 1230, one of the few places that is open until 1 and the drive through is the only thing open, i pull back around, pull up to the driveup window, and the lady looks at me weird as i hand the 10 back to her, then she thanked me and told me that she was really surprised that i brought that back, i liked that feeling i got from doing the right thing.
Ya, a month ago I woulda said KEEP IT!!! but now that alot of stuff has happened to me over the past month id say stuff does come back to bite you in the a** so now I say Take it back, For the love of god! LOL
I fthe machine screwes up, I give it back. If a teller or cashier screwes up, I take it and run. How will they learn if everyone helps them out all the time.
I took my wife out to lunch one afternoon and paid with a $20. The bill was more than $10, so when I got the change back, I just shoved it in my pocket with no more than a quick glance. I was out side in the parking lot when I realized I got back way too much change and when I dropped my wife off at work, I went back to the place to try to settle up- I don't want anything that isn't mine. The waitress wasn't sure how much the check was and I had thrown out the receipt, so I gave her back what I thought was a fair amount, and it ended up costing ME money!! Now, I always count the change before leaving.
