Door Open / Key In Bell
12K on an '04 6.0 F250, no problems, except the Door Open/Key In warning bell is really obnoxious! I like to play the radio/cd with the doors open when I'm cleaning the truck, and can't due to the bell.
On all my other trucks, I've disabled the bell at the door ajar switch, but I can't find it on this truck.
Does any one have a suggestion on how to disable?
Thanks, Al
One of the members just came up with a solution for the '05s. Your '04 should be similar.

1.) Pull off plastic housing around the ignition switch.
( It screws on from the bottom. )
2.) Insert the key in the switch and turn it to the *ON* position.
3.) Look underneath the switch and you'll see a small hole with a steel ball visible in it.
4.) Poke the ball with an ice pick or scriber and pull on the ignition key. The whole lock assembly will come out.
*** DO NOT TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE LOCK ***
5.) On the side of the lock cylinder assembly, you'll see a brass strip about 1/4" wide by 3/4" long.
6.) Put a strip of cellophane tape over that strip and reassemble the unit.
OR
7.) Remove brass strip - put in ashtray
Presto!!! No more key-in-door-open chime, but chime still works for other functions (lights on, seat belt, etc...)

You really can't do it "wrong" - that's curious that the chime still sounds while in acc position. Mine doesn't chime at all anymore when the key is in the ignition (any position) and the door is open. I don't remember - was there more than one brass strip in there? If so, maybe it's the other one...
