I have just bought a used 1986 Ford F150 XL 300 horses/6cyl and I am trying to find out if it is a 4.9L? I have tried places that decode VIN and they all seem to show that it is a 4.9L.
Is there anyone else out there who can confirm this? I would have checked the owners manual, but there is none.
If its a straight 6 in a Ford truck built in the last 20 years, it's a safe bet it's the 300 cube 6. Also called a 4.9L (liter) in Metric land. One Liter is about 61 cubic inches. They didn't want to call it a 5 Liter, that would conflict with the 302 V8 (now called 5.0L). I use them interchangably, but I still think English (now only American!) in my head.
Cubic Inches, Gallons and Feet forever!
