I bought my 95 F150 used and with it came an AWIA (sp?) cd player and stock speakers. Everybody else I know that has just put a head in gets better performance without any subs or anything, just stock speakers. I have to crank my volume to 50 before its anywhere near audible, while my friends hit 15 and you have to wear ear protection. How so? All connections and wires are good and intact.
Also, I am planning on just replacing the stock speakers with some upgrades this summer, this should help correct? Somebody said that my aftermarket head unit had more power than the stock one and this was overdriving the speakers? Didn't think that could happen...
First thing that comes to my mind is Aiwa's volume range, their numbers are a lot larger than most, i.e. normal volume level on Pioneer is around 15, Aiwa is around 30.
Second is if you have the Mach 460 sound system. Depending on who istalled the radio with this system, they may have bypassed the amps for the mids and subs.
I would say that if the two systems you are comparing sound the same, just at different numbers on the volume dial, there's no problem, just different manufacturers.
I bet that AIWA doesn't put out much more power than the stock deck...Don't forget to look at the starting/ending numbers for the volume settings. Some decks only go up to 40 (I believe Alpine's go about that 'high'), while others go up to 80-82 (Eclipse).
