Glad to hear that everything turned out well with the system; if you guys have any pictures of your vehicles you can always send them over to us for our "Customer Cars" section.
Well, I have to say, no muffler was getting annoying. I did have it routed through the back in duals though. I went and got a cheap muffler, flex tubing and lots of clamps about 6 months ago. Just yesturday, my old truck started to sound funny, and the check engine came on. Sure enough, the flex tube had rotted and cracked off, and now I have only the muffler. I just cant win. Well, if yall like the magnaflow, I guess thats good enough for me. I just wish that they had sqare ends as an option istead of the standard round ones. These new trucks are so boxy, I think that they would look killer like the lightning concept did.
I have a 04-F150-FX4 Screw-5.4. I`m going nuts reading all these exhaust threads.I`m more confused than ever. Can one of you guys that know, tell me what part #I need to order?I just want to replace the muffler. No cats, duels or whatever.
you just want to replace the muffler? Good luck! You need to replace the whole thing and not from a performance standpoint but have you been under your truck? the stock muffler is long as hell so if you replaced just the muffler you wouldn't find a replacement that would fit without welding up extra tubing etc. So by the time you do all of that with labor and all you would be able to find a good cat Back for about the same price and you can do that by your self , I did in my fron yard with a small socket set, a hack saw, and some wd-40 to lube the hangers.
I just replaced my OEM muffler (the Hindenberg) on Saturday. New muffler, 18", with a chrome tip, $200 installed, all fully welded. They had to add some pipe from the end of the new muffler to the existing pipe. Sounds great. I can hear it on the freeway doing 80, but it's not obnoxious by any means. I'm sure it's something I won't even hear as time goes by. Check out www.magnaflow.com and search for a dealer.
I didn't do the catback system, or worry about replacing the pipe out the back because I would only gain a few hp by doing so, but they wanted an extra $100 for it. I couldn't justify that for such a small gain.
DAThomas9, sounds good. Notice any improvment in power?
You made the right decision on cost vs. gain.
I went for the 'whole shebang' pro installed catcab, tip. And never got the improvment in mileage I was hoping for. A little. I do like my sound, and I do get more horsepower. With the Superchips in premium tune, the Catback and the AEM Bruteforce, my truck do move. Not much better than stock out of the hole, but at 3000 up it really boosts out.
Chris
Quite a difference in power. I have the Xcalibrator and am using the 91 octane tune. Getting on the freeway for the first time, I think I put a dent in the headrest when my head flew back.
Can't comment on mileage yet. Before this mod I averaged 16.7 mpg. We'll see what a lead foot brings for the remainder of this tank of gas.
After research on this, i think I will go with the Gibson supertruck. I cant beat the price for a stainless cat back, and those tips! Gonna look great sticking out of the side of my truck. Just wish I knew what it sounded like on a 4.6.
