My 2004 F-150 has had Poor A/C since day one. It seems it only really blows cold air when it is on MAX A/C. I am going to bring it to the dealer but was hopiong that I could get some info if anyone else has had the same problem and the dealer fixed it?
Mine does the same thing. Had the dealer look at it when I had the pad recall done and was told it was blowing 37 degree at the vent. So they told me it was fine. Maybe I should wait and take it in when its 100 outsie instead of 40.
Mine works perfectly, but if you do a search on cold, you will find that a number of these suckers were shipped with low charges.
37 at the vent closest to evap, with the system on max, is actually pretty good. It get's much colder, and it will start to freeze at the lines. 36 was optimum in the old systems.
Of course if it's 40 degrees out, how does he check it? That output temp is at a Nominal 76 degree air temp.

I had my 04 f150 in last week for poor ac performance. They claim there was some "gunk" in the system so they evacuated and recharged the system. Now with temps in the mid 70's the ac blows ~40 degree air according to the themometer I stuck in the air vent. This is on regular ac with the fan on 2 or so.
When I was working in A/C (short time, back in the dark ages, around 1988-89) the standard test was always with a 'candy' thermometer (or thermal coupling) stuffed into the vent closest to the evaporator, A/C on Max (recirculation) with doors and windows open, maximum blower, and the engine no higher than operating temp. You cool the radiator with a hose if she starts to warm up while you are working.
Anyway, the temps should be below 38, above 34. That's F not C, of course.
In real life the system is a little colder if you keep the blower down, but tell that to your sweaty passengers. The high blower makes them feel cooler.

I've read a few threads in the past week where the A/C was only cooling 20-30 degrees below ambient temperature. One thread reported having O-rings replaced and the system recharged.. I also read the thread where a service tech said that some were coming from the plants with only a partial charge.
My AC is not that cold, Fan-high, MAX AC = warm air ! It was approx 73 Sunny last week.
I m bring my truck in for AC check up and i had this feeling that factory building didnt really compele finish work on AC system, like low feron or whatever..
Update, I closed all vents except the one by the driver next to the radio, turned the fan on max and turned on max ac. The temp then read ~37 degrees from that one vent.
I had issues with mine too. Dealer said the system was leaking. Replaced some o rings and recharged system. Hopefully it's fixed...won't be able to tell until it heats up around here (Got 6" of snow Sunday, all melted on Monday).
My AC blows too But it's more of a slightly cool breeze. I read here somewhere this poor performance also has something to do with my outside air temp guage being randomly way off. Sometimes it will display 55d when it's really 75d outside.
Just got back from Service dept, they found that there was a leaking that they replaced ring and recharged system...now it seems really cold. They said it should running good at 40*.
I had the air conditioner problem as well. There is a Techincal Service Bulletin for this problem. It is a simple software update and the replacement of a nozzle that will correct the problem. The whole process takes about 30 minutes. The air conditioner works great now.
