one day i decided to try and tkae the challenge on to try to make a mess insert form gutter gaurds from home deopt.ive tried several times to do this but i just give up. i was told to use 2 pieces and then connect them with zip ties. and then use jb quik weld to gluee it on the grill.well i neverr got that far.. i just gave up. so i thiouhgtt of just geting a big sheet of stuco wire they use to put on the side of houses. and then trim it out on a template and just place it back there. does it sound like a better idea or is there a place i could get somemore info on it.any suggestions?
Don't know where you had a problem. I did the same thing with an 04 Ranger XLT. The grille out line is chrome and the insert is black. I bought the "Home Depot" gutter guard and installed it behind the black bars of the grille. before so I painted the guard material with chrome paint. It turned out real nice.
Take off the grill, let it on the floor, shiney side down. Cut the gutter guard with 1" extra around each edge, solid all the way across. Do this with both pieces. Fold all of the outside edges so they stay tight around the grille, trimming off corner pieces as needed. JB weld them, one piece at a time and hold them good and tight until it's dry. Run zipties between the two pieces of gutter guard to tighten them up. Make sure they placed right so they don't show from the front of the grill. Oh, and step one is paint, if you want to. I didn't with mine, it's dulled a little but still looks good, just doesn't stand out as much, looked much better before.
(might have to cut and paste that?)
And here's what it looks like after about a year without paint...
Still does a good job of keeping rocks out of the radiator
