I know this has been asked several times, but heres my question????
I have 77 F250 4x4 with a 400 w/C6 tranny. I just put on my Edelbrock Intake and 600CFM carb, I ready to move onto the exhaust system. I need some good input on what Headers I should look at and what exhaust system I should look at? I was thinking of a dual system with 40 series Flowmasters. Does anyone else have a good combination they are running that works well with the 400 engine. Any advice would be great.
I had a lincoln mark V with the 400m. I did not have headers, but I ran a dual glasspack setup and left the cat in place. 2&1/2in pipe with 2 cherry bomb 20 in glasspacks. It sounded really good, but kinda loud for a lincoln. It would have been just right for a pickup though. The 400m sounds very good with glasspacks IMO. The flowmasters sound great at idle, and up to 2000 rpm, but beyond that(in an older engine) they sound kind of "tinny" and weak. Trust me, the 400 will bark and talk real nice to you with dual glasspacks.
I did the exaust on a '78 400 2V, It had 2" to the tranny crossmember and thats where the straightpipes stopped, so I got ahold of some 2.25" pipe that had Thrush Magnums on them, hammered them down over the 2" pipe and welded them up. Because the 2.25' system was off a chev and the ford had no front gastank to deal with I had them exiting in front of the rear wheels and it sounds awesome, its not even real loud. No headers on it though.
