I made a few posts in that thread that may interest you.

If you need extra calories to build mass then a weight gain/ protien type powder may be what you want. Otherwise, whatever you eat, eat a lot of it.

How old are you? I was 6' and about 140-145 from 16 years old to about 27 (now 30), with about 4% body fat. I've since put on about 25 lbs, and not all of it was muscle, but would still be considered "thin". The best thing you could do is to stay active. You are at a very healthy weight right now, and cardiovascular health is far more important to long term health than gaining muscle mass. Personally, with all the ladder climbing I do in my job, I'd rather be back at the 145 lb level...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now here's a topic I'm really good at honest !
Carbs & Fats:
Potatoes & Gravy
Pasta
Triple Cheese Burgers
Always make sure to eat after 10:00pm before you go to bed
This is how to gain weight .
or
Would you rather gain weight in the form of Muscle as Muscle weighs more than fat does ?
Im 20 yrs old.
I do drink my fair share of beer, and I used to always eat after 10pm. But not much lately, too tired come that time.
Id say im pretty active for the most part, I build wellheads, so always turning a wrench of some sort or lifting valves around.
Id like to get right around the 200 mark. I got to try and eat more often I think is my main problem. Living by yourself kinda sucks, too lazy to make something to eat all the time.
Longview1, I'd really worry more about eating healthy meals at your age, with a good balance of carbs, fat and protein. Unless you're looking to become Mr. Universe, you really have no reason to put on weight. All you'd be doing is setting yourself up with some bad eating habits that would be tough to shake later on. Trust me, once you hit your late 20s, your metabolism will more than likely slow down somewhat, and that's when you'll start packing it on if you're not careful and don't already have good eating habits in place. Eat at the same times every day, eat lots of fruits and veggies ("good" carbs in the fruits!), don't go hog-wild on the red meat. 3 light-to-medium meals a day with light snacks in between is better than sitting down to a feast. An occasional large meal isn't a problem then.
I am 23 years old and weigh around 150 and am 6'3" tall. I am just starting to fill out a little more but I work outside all day (climbing trees) so I don't have a lot of extra fat. A few years ago I did a test and they said my body fat was less than 2 or 3%.
Longview1. . .
TRUST me. . . the weight will come!!!
At 24 I weighed 174 lbs. . . at 6'-6". I could eat what I wanted, drink what I wanted and NEVER gained a pound!
I worked out 5 times a week, went out with friends, played sports & 'chased skirts'. Bottom line, I was VERY active.
I got married (the first time) and gained 5 pounds in 7 years.
She thought that the grass was 'greener' on the other side of the street, so she moved there. Can you say divorce?
I stayed at 179 lbs. until I was 32.
I started dating a 'former' girlfriend, and later married her. We've been married now, almost 20 years. (Best decision of my life, I will add.)
I jumped to 195 lbs. almost immediately. (Age + slowing down + my new wife could cook!!!)
Fast forward to 1997. My beautiful little 5 year old daughter, for her birthday, asked me to stop smoking, for her 6th birthday.
I did. I haven't had a cigarette since July 30, 1997.
I IMMEDIATELY started gaining weight.
Today. . . I'm 51 yrs old. I am still 6'-6" tall (well, settling a bit) . . . but I now weigh 265 lbs!!!!
TRUST me. . . . the weight will come. Don't rush it.
Those protein shakes never worked for me. My body metabolises it so quickly that it never goes to muscle mass, I just burn it. I go for long periods of time (2-3 years) where I stay the exact same weight no matter what I do. Then somehow within a week I'll put on 10 lbs (not in fat, I just grow or something) and then I stay that weight for another 2-3 years.
That sounds familiar- I think I weighed about 136, same height. Am 50 now, and keep right around 160. Walking these hills with the dogs and hiking keep it pretty stable. I still smoke though so I'm wondering what'll happen when i quit.
I do trust you guys that the weight will come sometime,but I want it now.
I got a tub of ice cream, gonna mix it in the blender later tonight before bed.
Last year when i was in camp for 10 weeks straight, I gained about 15-20lbs, felt good, then went back home (not with parents) And im to lazy to cook usually, so i lost most of it.
