OK, so I just got my offical Ford aftermarket clearance light kit (New In Box) off of ebay! Now comes the hard part, installation! First of all, I have 1 "2 wire" (black and brown) wiring harness and 5 amber lights. I need EXACT measurements for them! If you guys have them, please share! My other problem is that I'm not sure where to plug the wiring harness into. Under dash? Hood? What side, passenger, or driver? This truck is a 99' F-250 XLT, SD, w/ 5 speed, and 7.3 PSD.
Heres a site that i found that shows how to install them. Man i want to put them on my f-250, but i don't have the guts to drill big holes through the top of my cab.
I helped my neighbor do this to his truck last weekend. He has the sun roof, and taking the measurements off of my truck it placed the lights 1/4 inch from contacting the seal around the sun roof. He decided to move them forward 1/2 inch from my factory installed placement. +- The lights don't shine in the eyes of back seat passengers, The back of the lights are not touching the roof. They are about 1/8 inch high. Flush on the front and most of the sides, just the back end is sticking up. We installed a longer wire to the lights B4 installation. Enough to get each lights wires over to the drivers A piller. Ground went to the A piller, power ran down the piller to a plug under the dash. Only later to find out the power line he tapped into is on the back side of the light dimmer switch. This also turned out to be not so bad. On long night drives he can dim the dash and overhead lights, and has less glare off the hood. Seal the holes with calk (not silicone) silicone has salt in it. We dont want your roof rusting out.
I am looking to do the same thing to my 99 F250 4x4 V-10 ext cab LB. What lights did you get. Could you give me the ebay # so I can see if that's what I'm looking for. I want the light kit and wiring harnes and then I want to change the lights from amber to clear.

Just curious, where did you get the clearance lights to install on your friend's truck? Were they the late model Ford kind or the earlier kind?
The reason I ask is that I have an 05 F350 with the sun roof and I looked high and low to find the late model clearance lights. I had these on my other truck and got used to them but this new truck didn't come with them. Anyway, the only place I could find them was www.kcautomotive.com. The other Ford set is longer...the late model is a bit shorter. I'm wondering about the room to put them on this truck with the sun roof. If you used the late model type and they still stick up...I am wondering?
I spent a few extra bucks and did mine the easy way, I bought the lights and complete harness from my dealer. I know, giving away money, but it was easier to change out the harness to the correct one and I used the procedure from the link above. They look and work great, just took alot to make that first hole in the roof, kinda freaky cutting into a new 45,000 dollar truck like that, but with a lot of measuring and rechecking everything, they are great and don't leak either. The wiring harness connects in the passenger side kick panel, the hardest part besides measuring and convincing myself to cut the roof was to get all those little retainers out and the new ones back in place down the A-pillar. The standard lights should work with a sunroof, b/c they asked me about what options I had for the wires, but said the lights were the same either way.
