If I leave the key in the ignition when I shut my 02 PSD off, proceed to get out of the truck and with the door open, the dinger for the key is making its noise....shut the door and it will still ding for probably 7 or 8 seconds after I walk away. Just started this a couple of weeks ago. Have also noted that after getting into the truck and closing the door, the "door ajar" symbal will stay illuminated for 7 or 8 seconds. Whats wrong...switch or sensor and any quick fix? I want it to work like it did before it went nuts.
Don't have any ideas of the right fix. FYI I had a 97 F150. The interior and bed light would stay on intermittenly with the door closed, along with the door ajar symbol lit. It turned out to be the door switch. Maybe....
Dome light stay on longer as well ? Could be the Door Ajar Switch. Unfortunately on the newer body style (99.5 & up) it's not the easiest to get to. It's behind the door trim panel attached to the door latch assembly. The wires to it go through the rubber bellows running between the cab & door. If it's not the switch then most likely somethings up with the GEM - the switch just supplies a signal to the GEM that the door is open or closed. I'd start w/ the switch first.

Reason: oops
It sounds like your door switch. This is a switch inside of the door that shuts the radio off, controls the key dinger, the door ajar light, etc. This might have gone bad. It happens on the time, and it's usually a cheap fix.
The door switch is in the door latch. Just spray WD-40 on the latch (soak it pretty good) and this will probably fix it. It has worked on mine for about 3 months now.

OK guys, you say to WD-40 the door latch...are you talking about the mechanism that is at the end of the door (what I have always called the "door latch") OR are you talking about the lever switch that is mounted on the extended cab door directly across from the "door latch"?
If its not the lever switch we are talking about....then whats its for? Have always wondered what its purpose in life is...thanks.
I'm talking about the latch on the end of the front door. The part which would catch on the striker on the door post. I have a crew cab, so I don't know about a lever switch.
