Comp Cams, hyd rollers with 114 degree LSA: Part #'s-- (XE264HR) 35-349-8, (XE270HR) 35-351-8, ( 266HR) 35-308-8, (270HR) 35-310-8, ( 276HR) 35-312-8, Plus all their Nitrous and blower rollers have 114 degree LSA's. So you see a 114 degree LSA cam isn't hard to find. And not all will work with SD systems either without modifying the computer.
much better. dont want to give anyone miss info here. and because hes putting this into a truck he is gonna need low end power not hi end so most if not all are out of the question. sucks because im in the same boat with my 95 5.8. but will have a custom one made unless i upgrade to mass air . but i drive an 88 so i wont have any tranny/ecu issues to worry about
Well don't forget the F4TE roller, it Will work and as I said before, it's got plenty of bottom end grunt. I've run one in a mild 30 over 302 roller motor with ported E7 heads, 1.7 rockers,a Ford A321 high rise dual plane intake, topped with a Holley 600. It pulls from idle to valve float at 5500 rpms. Might even pull to 6000 or better with better valve springs, but I purposely left the stock springs to keep that from happening and stressing the stock rod bolts. Was even a blast to drive daily in my 89 Ranger backed with a 4 speed.
all that motor in a ranger would be a blast
do you have the part number for the 1.7s you used?
That motor was fun , but not as fun as the stroker, six-pack equipped, Z303 cammed, Canfield headed motor that's there now Except when it comes time to fill the tank up with 93 octane premium. The rockers I used on the E7's were a set of used "Cobra" roller rockers I bought on the net. Crane sells them under their Energizer series rockers. Same rockers. They just developed them first for Ford for the 93 Cobra Mustangs.
All the factory small block heads since 1978 have been pedestal type. The Crane part # for them is 44746-16, list price is $200. You can also find used sets in the classifieds on StangNet.com. ( and elsewhere too) I bought mine for $125 there.
UPDATE: The 351 is currently being installed in my truck. The Mustang shorty headers look like they were made for an F-series truck- they fit very well. The 1.7 Cobra roller rocker arms have also been installed, and I didn't even have to shim them. Should be driving it by Friday, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
UPDATE: Gonna pick up the truck from the shop tomorrow. Shop owner tells me it runs out very well. Got a question for you guys, however- they took the EGR off the motor, so now the Check Engine light stays on. What can I do to get that light to turn off WITHOUT putting the EGR back on?
To eliminate the CEL you'll need either a chip/eec tuner or an EGR valve position sensor eliminator. You can get the eliminator here http://fordfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=61
Here's my '96 F-250 roller cam equipped 351w I just picked up for $200. Hard to find them that cheap around here, usually can't even get a bare block for that kind of money but I got a complete motor, intake to pan.
