I have a 94 F-150, 351w, e4od that will not start ....ahhhhh!!! It has spark but no fuel. I have checked all the relays, fuel shut-off and fuses. When the ignition is turned on there is no noise coming from the fuel pumps (dual tanks). What else would suddenly cause this? Someone told me a crank sensor? Does anyone else have an opinion? TIA
You will have to do some trouble shooting,
step 1) with the ignition on, find the fuel rail
(top of the intake drivers side) look for the preasure check valve (looks like a tire valve stem) depress the stem . if you have some low pressure but CONSTANT fuel flow it will most likely be your regulator.
step 2) check your grounds for clean cables. also remove the harnesses form the fire wall and check for corosion.
step 3) reach up on top of your fuel tank(s), feel the wire connector wiggle it around there may be a problem there, if the ignition is on you should hear the pump kick on.
step 4) maybe this should be step 1, on the passenger side remove the kick panel from the interior, there you will find the fuel reset switch make sure it is pushed in. (its a button that is similar to a circuit protector on some household power strips)
if these don't seem to work respond back and maybe we'll have some more ideas..
Good luck
I have tried all of the above. Next stop ...hand grenade. I know it is going to be something small. The fuel pumps were both replaced last summer under warranty. Do inertia switches fail? I have banged on mine and it has tripped ..but when I reset it, it affects nothing.
I have checked the inertia switch ...even tapped it to set it off and reset it. I have only checked the rear tank for power (the front is a little more difficult to reach). When the ignition is turned on the relays can be heard clicking but the injectors are not pressuring up (nor are the pumps whining, front or back). I have tried pressing the fuel valve ontop of the intake and there is 0 pressure.
When you tested the fuel shut off switch, did you use a light tester to see if you have power going through the switch? If the switch is bad you will have no pump presure. Also the fuel valve that switches from tank to tank may be your problem. If the switch gets stuck in between front and back, it wont send power to either.
Hi Dave
I checked the fuel shut off with a test light and once the ignition is turned on the switch gets power for about 2-3 seconds and then thats it. But I will check the selector valve next! Thanks!
I had the very same problem, but what was really strange is that it happened right after i changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. At first I thought I did something wrong or blew the coil, but checking the spark showed that I had plenty.
What I DID do was to bump the wiring to the fuel pump relay which is located on the driver side fender well. There was one little corroded wire which I bumped just enough to break up inside the connector. Cleaned the wire, pushed it in and VOILA! Replaced the connector (12 dollars at Tasca Ford) and I was back up and running.
I do know what Moley is speaking of, though I dont think that is your problem. Normaly when the conection at the fuel pump realy goes bad, you get no power at the fuel shut off switch. As the current goes through the relay first then to the switch then to the selector valve and then to the pump. Though I do have the tech bulletin that ford issued on this. Tech number 92-26-8 can fax it to you if you like. Can not post it at this time as my scanner does not want to work this morning. Call me. See our web page for number
