Guys,
I am not an activist, but I do ride/wheel offroad, and I think you should all be aware and respond in your own way to Ford on this issue. Heck, maybe you even support it? Either way let them know how you feel.
I won't post it here, but here is the URL to Blue Ribbon Coalition's website. You can find the newsletter under ACTION ALERT near the bottom.

Through the "divide an conquer" approach that environmentalist have taken against the motorized community I have seen our freedom to use the outdoors in multiuse fashion dwindle exponentially.
Justs the facts please. Ford does not support OHV closures. Ford did, however, grant money to the National Audubon Society. There's a big difference. I'm a Republican and I give them my money but that doesn't mean I support Jerry Falwell or all the of the party-line thought.

Hmm, and of course if we buy Coors, we support the Sierra Club, therefore all beer-drinkers are neo-tree hugger pinko Democrats...
Nope, no sale.
No way FORD sells all these great OHV trucks and would try to close off it's own market...
But there are times when sub-charities end up with money we would prefer to go elsewhere, unfortunately
OK...the fact is that FoMoCo paid $5 million to the National Audubon Society, an organization that is actively opposing drilling in the arctic and actively supporting the closure of vast stretches of land to ORV use. Even for a multi billion dollar corporation like Ford, whose best selling products currently are gas guzzling SUVs and 4wd pickups, that's no small amount. As I said on the mailing list, frankly this looks more like corporate blackmail ala Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow Coalition than charity.
Boycotting is a legitimate response if one subscribes the the "cutting off your nose to spite your face" school of thought and if you don't have to buy a new truck right this minute it might be a good time to postpone the purchase until you've had a chance to express your opinion to FoMoCo through the letter on the link mentioned in the first post.
Organizations like Audubon and the Sierra Club have a proven track record of taking the whole road after being given an inch. I highly doubt they'll rest on their laurels should they succeed in closing public land to ORVs. I'd say that sportfishing and hunting would be the next targets on their list.
I pretty much left it open and am a little surprised to see a few of the comments. This isn't about the artic, If you don't think Audubon doesn't stand for Road Closures check out the URL below on their site. They are for them and I'll quote their newsletter, "Audubon was pleased and proud to have coordinated the submission of over 20,000 comments all in support of the Roadless Area Consevation Rule..."
Ford gave these guys 5 million bucks and that money is used to create changes in legislation like the Road Closure act and more.
I have run into many newly locked gates in the last 5 years, and I always go find out why. The "why" has often been the road closure act, Sierra club pressures etc...
If Ford wants to support you and I to use our gas guzzlers on public lands then support Blue Ribbon or some organization that is for keeping public lands for the public.
Pepsi contributes to the anti's, Target contributes to the anti's, etc. Anti hunting that is.
Rumors are a dime a dozen and can be very destructive. Some rumors turn into fact.
If every corporation posted all the causes they give to. I'd probably be rich. Since I wouldn't have spent a nickel on anything. That or I'd be dead since I hadn't purchased any food from the suppliers.
This OHV thing has been going on for a while. The first target was the bikes and 4x4's. So for now it's ok to hike in there. Give the radicals time and then no one will be able to even set foot on the property.
A great deal of corporate blackmail takes place. A given.
How to fight it? Not buy the products? Well that can really put a person in a pickel. Pro-gun, Anti-abortion, Pro-drilling for oil, Anti-capital punishment. I just wiped off 95% of the businesses out there to get goods from. And I promise I can find something to disagree on with the last 5%.
If something bothers you. Check it out before launching your own crusade. Besides, you may find that the competition was doing it a long time before.
Facts: On many "national" forest you can only travel around by foot and risk going to jail for picking blackberrys. Who's land is it anyway ? When I see "forest rangers" in sniper gear with rifles stalking hikers to see if they are poaching mushrooms it bothers me a bunch. (TLC report last June)
