Cool Leaf spring problem

ok, when I purchased my 95 f150, I knew that one of the leafs had splint in half and had broken off.
It was on the right side, and was the 3rd leaf down.

Well, now the same leaf on the left side has broken in the same spot, and from looking at the leaf, I would say it has been broken for awhile.

Is this a common problem?

Is there a way to fix it without buying new leaf springs?

I was looking into add-a-leafs, but I wanted that extra 2 inches of height on top of the stock height, not to make it level again.

can I purchase 2 add-a-leafs? cause I think that would be wierd.

let me know

Chris

Thumbs up Leaf Springs

Removing and replacing leaf springs is easy and can be cheap.

1. Get a new spring package from a spring vendor in the yellow pages. This is also a chance to upgrade your spring strength. They are usually measured in pounds per inch.
1a. You can get new springs from Ford but this is really expensive.

2. Get another set of springs from another similar year Ford in the junk yard. The yard can cross the numbers to see which year works. My guess is a lot of years will fit a 95 F 150. An F 250 will NOT work. This route is usually pretty cheap.

3. Really cheap is to go to the junk yard, way out pack and find some springs that are the same width as yours and at least as thick (the individual leaf). Take them apart and use one of the springs that is at least as long as your broken ones (make it several inches longer to be safe). Replace the broken leafs with the new ones (remember you can use a cut off saw to make the junk yard leafs any length you want)
Get new spring clamps from any spring shop or make them yourself.

By the way if you are breaking springs it means you should get heavy duty springs to replace them.

Helper springs are not as good as the correct heavy duty springs which are the correct design.

Is your truck 2wd or 4wd, 2wd's are 2-1/2" wide and 4wd are 3" wide. F250's that do not have the "heavy duty" suspension also have 3" wide springs so they will swap into a f150 4wd. I had 4 leafs on mine from factory but I replaced them with a set from JC Whitney that have 5 leafs and also handles a lot more weight. They went right in and I'm very pleased with the results and the truck rides so much better too. Heres the part number I got ZX975256X and they're $109.99 for one set so you'd need 2 of them. When I got them they was having free shipping over a certain ammt. of money so I saved a lot right there. Basically if you decide to rebuild your springs your still going to have old used springs. For all the hassle and work that your gonna have to do to them just pull the old out and put the new in and be done with it. Also 1980-96 F150-F250 are interchangable, just make sure you get the right width.
